Yoga Therapy Sessions

Yoga therapy sessions with Shama draw from Structural Yoga Therapy, Ayurvedic Yoga Therapy and the teachings of the Yoga Sutras for the healing of mind and emotions.

A typical session begins with an individual assessment of physical, energetic, and mental-emotional layers of being. Physical assessments may include an evaluation of posture, strength and flexibility, an assessment of the unique way your body has adapted to life, and an assessment of ayurvedic doshas at play in any condition presenting. Lifestyle, including diet, and mental-emotional condition according to ayurvedic and TCM (traditional chinese medicine) principles are also taken into account.

According to findings, and personal needs, a personalised yoga therapy programme is created. A yoga therapy routine may include a combination of gentle joint releasing and muscle toning movements, healing breath practices, relaxation, visualisation and meditation practices, and yoga asanas (postures). Pain-relief and energy-enhancing practices are also taught as required. Dietary advice and home remedies maybe given, based on either ayurvedic or macrobiotic principles. The practices are adapted over a number of weeks, as changes in the body-mind take place. Yoga Therapy sessions are ideally carried out weekly over a period of 8 – 12 weeks. Some conditions such as spinal curvatures require longer commitments.

Yoga Therapy is not a treatment: it involves an assessment and personalised yoga practices which empower you to become your own healer. However, some therapeutic muscle release work may be carried out in sessions or massage using essential oils blended for your personal requirements and meridian acupressure points.

Yoga Therapy for Mind and Emotions is influenced by the Raja Yoga teachings of Patanjali Maharshi, mind-body healing techniques, and ayurvedic yoga therapy. Sessions may include an initial discussion of issues presenting followed by an in-depth inner enquiry into belief systems, the root cause and deeper, healing messages of mental-emotional distress. Yoga therapy and self-healing practices are given to help bring the body-mind back to balance and harmony.

Yoga Therapy is beneficial for:

Back, hip, neck, shoulder, or knee pain: postural misalignments: joint pain and inflammation: fibromyalgia: chronic fatigue: spinal curvatures: stress: anxiety: depression: digestive, circulatory and cardiovascular, or respiratory disorders.
